Obituary of Edward W. Checchia

Edward W. Checchia, 80, of Suntree and formally of Long Island, N.Y. was called home to the lord on July 13, 2010. He was born and raised in New York City where he worked until his retirement as a machinist. An incredible Mr. Fix It, Ed would always lend a hand to anyone who needed it. Whether it was cars, trucks, home improvements, refrigeration or volunteer firefighting, if it was going on in the neighborhood he was there. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Dorothy all over the US, Europe and cruises to the Caribbean and Hawaii. On certain Saturdays in the fall, he would enjoy the football exploits of his favorite team, the Florida Gators. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dorothy M.(Watson) Checchia, his son, William R. Checchia, and his wife Mary M. Checchia. In addition there are three grandchildren, Michael Checchia and his wife Rachel, St Augustine Fl., Bryan Checchia and Leanna Checchia (both attending UCF). The grandchildren will always remember their Pop-Pop and the kindness and generosity he showed them over the years. A visitation will be held on Friday July 16, 2010 from 6-8pm with a memorial service on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 1pm at Beach Funeral Home, 4999 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, FL (321) 751-6012.
