I had Dr. Rosiene for 3 courses at Florida Tech. During my time at F.I.T. Dr. Rosiene was my favorite professor. He was quite a unique individual whose heart and soul was in academia. The breadth of his knowledge was off the charts. I'd find myself having to look up words in the dictionary because I never heard of them before his lectures. He was an intellectual who simultaneously was very down to Earth and pretty funny at times. His teaching style was fun and engaging he taught his students new ways of looking at things in art, film, and of course rhetoric. He will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to his family.

Dr. Rosiene was one of the most interesting instructors that I encountered during my undergraduate career, and was one of the influences that led me to switching to a Humanities concentration. He taught me how to pay close attention to a text or film, and in a broader sense, how to think critically. He showed me how to see and analyze the lenses through which we view the world.
He was my advisor for my Capstone research. Anxiety often kept me from taking advantage of office hours, but with Dr. Rosiene, if his door was open, I always felt welcome. In that time, I learned more about his personality, like his love for the Undertones (“one of my all-time favorite bands” he told me) and the depth of his encyclopedic knowledge of science fiction and film (no doubt a result of his tremendous collection). Before his Critical Theory class, I would think of an excuse to sit in front of his desk and talk. His office, with its wall-to-wall bookshelves filled with countless sci-fi paperbacks and medieval history texts, was one of the most inviting places on campus. Often my visit was about my Capstone research into literary utopias, but equally as often it was just to talk about science fiction movies or punk and indie music. I always felt he valued our time as much as I did, and after I graduated, I was honored and excited every time he would send me a message. He made an effort to stay in touch, and it was then that I came to consider him a friend.

I had Dr. Rosiene for one of my freshman classes. I looked forward to his class because I had never appreciated humanities in the way he taught it. Truly an incredible person, definitely someone who made me look at life in a different way. My condolences.

I took Dr. Rosiene's classes in college. He was engaging with students and he was always helpful. I am sad this pandemic has taken him away. I will miss him. My sympathies to his family and friends.

I worked with Alan in the Arts and Communication dept. at Florida Tech for many years and considered him a close friend and colleague. I was shocked to hear of his passing and will miss him very much. My sympathies to his family.
Alan was the one who interviewed me for a teaching position in 2000 and ended up hiring me for a job that lasted 17 years. I will always be grateful to him for that.
